After a very successful first workshop in October 2017, more than 60 participants from Argentina, Chile, Germany and the USA came together at CADIC in Ushuaia from 9.-13. April 2018 for our second DynAMo Workshop. From the German side colleagues from ICBM and the University of Oldenburg, the FAU University in Erlangen, -4H-Jena and AWI had found their way to Tierra del Fuego.
The second Workshop aimed at discussing and deepening the strategic goals within each of the three previously defined work packages. Under the guidance of the assigned work package speakers new and ongoing collaborations have been elaborated, scientific projects have been scheduled and issues concerning the infrastructure (e.g. workforce and equipment) have been addressed. Terrestrial and marine areas of interest along the Beagle Channel have been determined, a successful first meeting with local stakeholders has been held and the technical details and a schedule for the launch of the first buoy prototype have been elaborated. This buoy is currently build under the supervision of Alejandro Vitale at the IADO institute in Bahía Blanca (Argentina) and then transported to CADIC in Ushuaia.
A joint hike up to Martial Glacier in Ushuaia provided the participants with a stunning view over the bay of Ushuaia and onto one of the last glaciers in Tierra del Fuego. The next Workshop will be held in 2020. All participants welcomed the idea to have this meeting in Punta Arenas (Chile) to further strengthen the bilateral efforts between Argentina and Chile.
