My research revolves around the many ways organisms adapt to and interact with their environment. Molecular information is doubly interesting: the DNA molecules contain abundant information about the timing and nature of the historical processes that affected the evolution of the organisms throughout their evolutionary past and adaptation itself has a molecular dimension (e.g. in enzyme variants may function best at different temperatures). The slightly different fit to the prevailing environmental conditions that molecular variants provide becomes intriguing as the tables may be turned under the different conditions in the near future. Research fields: molecular evolution, phylogeny and population genetics.
In collaboration with marine and terrestrial working groups within the DYNAMO project, we will target the assessment of marine biodiversity in the Beagle Channel, how it changes throughout the year and how it is influenced by various natural and anthropogenic influences on the Beagle Channel.
